The August Company of The Martillodores does invite all combatants and witnesses to attend the
L’Esercisio della Spada
To take place on June 8th through 10th of June, 2007 The Younge’s Grove, Turlock, CA.
The Company of The Martillodores does send challenge to all who would care to meet us on our field of Honor! To fight us with Courtesy, Skill, Camaraderie and Style! Any and all who would accept this call must be prepared to show the assembled Gallery and The Company of the Martillodores a display of their best qualities in the Arte of Defense with the rapier,, (To be conducted in the style of a Pas d' Armes!) and we entreat our challengers to meet us at the shooting range, to show the skill of the target Archer.
Furthermore, With the gracious hosting of the Shire of Betony Wood and the Barony of Fettburg, The Company of The Martillodores invites all who would witness this tournament to be welcome in their shaded galleries provided for their viewing pleasure and comfort, the better to see all of the Martial arts for the day.
The format of the L’Esercisio della Spada and how it works:
All participants of the event who will be in the gallery will receive a set of tokens. Each of which are to be given out to a combatant that best exemplifies the following traits:
Tokens can be given out to combatants at the end of any round of fighting during the day.
But since the theme of the tournament is, “Love, considering its best forms”, everyone will receive a special token of LOVE.
That token can be given to anyone by anyone during the day to reward those who display their best quality of the virtue of LOVE. This is not just for a romantic consort, but could also be for the love of a friend, a comrade participating, to one’s family, even to express love of the Crown or Kingdom. But we ask that you be tasteful in your expression. Remember; any token can be given out at anytime during the day.
If you intend to enter to do combat at the L’ Esercisio della Spada, you MUST meet the following requirements:

All entrants must be familiar with the basic concept of a Pas d’ Armes:

Fighter information:
All West kingdom Rapier combat/Target archery rules will be in effect.
- Sign ups start at 9:30am until 10:30am.
- Armor inspection starts at 10:00am.
- The opening of the L’Esercisio della Spada will begin at 11:00am.
- The target Archery portion will formally start 15 minutes after the
rapier portion of the event.
- The format will be a novelty shoot to be announced later.

The Company of the Martillodores has arranged with House Regola della Donna who has graciously agreed to cook a 3 course feast. If you have table games or play music, sing or speak poetry, it would be well received by the event.

Important site information!
Site opens at 12:00 noon on Friday the 8th and closes at 3:00pm Sunday the 10th.
The site is located on private residence property with various animals living there, ranging from horses to dogs to various birds. Do not disturb the property owners or approach the animals unless permission is given by the site owner.
There is a full grocer, hotels and various fast food restaurants 20 minutes from the site if needed. If you are bringing food to site, the owners ask that no food to be brought onsite that has any bones due to at least one animal that can choke on any bones thrown away!
Camping is available onsite and the autocrat can possibly make a tent available for crash space for people coming from great distance, but quantities are very limited. Please contact the autocrat for information. If you are seeking a hotel nearby, please contact the autocrat for a list of hotels in the area. There is a pond adjacent to the site but no swimming is allowed.
We ask that parents please keep watch on their children on site and request that they are not be allowed to wander from the designated areas of the event.
Site Fee:
- Adults and ages 16+ years: $6.00 (members)
- Ages 15 to 10 years: $3.00
- Ages under 10: free admission
Please remember, there is a 3.00 surcharge for all nonmembers (NMS) or non-members can accept the W.K.W.C. to defray the cost of the NMS fee.

Directions to the event:
From the Stockton/Sacramento, Ca. Area:
Take 99 south of Modesto (just past Ceres) to the Keyes Road exit.
Turn left at overpass, travel east on Keyes Road you will drive 10 miles to Santa Fe Ave (you will cross the Santa Fe Railroad tracks).
Turn right on Santa Fe Ave (you are now headed south) Travel approx. 6 miles to East Ave. and you will pass through Denair. Look for the generic SCA sign.
Turn right on East Avenue (2 miles south of Denair).
Travel to the First house on the right which is *7243 East Avenue, Turlock, CA 95380 (feel free to MapQuest® it).
Alternate route through Turlock, if you are coming from Los Angeles, exit to the East:
Exit W. Main st., (Turlock) turn left (East) over fwy and travel into Turlock and the ropad will bend left and you will come to (it says "Ca.-99-Br" on MapQuest®) N. Golden State blvd.
Turn Right onto N. Golden State blvd./Ca.-99-Br (Central park should be on your right.) travel until you see East ave.
Turn Left. You will travel 7 miles or so through town to the site* which will be on the left. Look for the generic SCA sign.
